Four Oaks Primary School, Year 3 working on their Self Portraits

Children (and adults!) love working with colours, patterns and textures and take great pleasure from creative activities. Felt making is ideal for this, as it gives the opportunity to create wonderful 2 and 3 dimensional designs, using a range of fabulous colours, textures and patterns using just wool, soap and water.

Felting is an exciting creative journey taking raw materials and working with them to create a finished textile piece. Stimulating a holistic, multi sensory learning experience, felting embraces student’s visual and tactile senses whilst developing their fine motor skills. The physicality of the felting process makes it great for kinesthetic learners, and engages both male & female students alike.

Felt making is a wonderful way to develop innovative and creative thematic cross curricular projects; embracing D&T, numeracy, literacy, science, materials, environment, history, PSE.

I offer felt making workshops for children and young people of all ages and abilities at primary and secondary school. I can tailor workshops and residencies to meet the specific needs of your group, a curriculum topic  or current theme.  Workshops can be for a day, over several sessions or longer.

Workshops are also available for teachers, technicians and support staff as INSET, CPD and team building.  Previous clients include primary, secondary and special education schools, youth groups, community art projects, museums & art galleries.

In addition to feltmaking I also provide workshops in a range of textiles and creative visual arts & crafts for young people and adults including; paper making (pulp & silk), batik, printing, dyeing (natural & synthetic), screenprinting, weaving & embroidery.

I am a qualified teacher  (Cert Ed.), hold Public Liability Insurance and enhanced CRB certification.
