The next workshop is schduled for 5th/6th October 2024. However if you are interested in taking part in a Felt Slipper workshop before this, please email / message me to discuss a more suitable date for you or your group.

Treat your feet and make a pair of hand felted wool slippers, perfect for keeping your toes toasty in the colder months. Learn new skills and leave with beautiful wearable art!

Felted wool slippers offer luxurious comfort and health giving properties for your feet, as they offer natural insulation and breathable temperature regulation. When worn, the felted wool will mould to the shape of each foot adding further comfort to the wearer. The wearing of wool slippers against the skin is also said to help stimulate blood circulation!

During this two day workshop you will design and make your own unique pair of felted wool slippers. These seamless felt slippers can be made in a slipper style of your choice; slip on mules or clog slipper with a heel blast height of your choosing.

This is a great opportunity to learn & enhance your felting skills whilst creating a practical project. The felting techniques you will learn & use include…applying wet felting to seamless felting to creating a hollow form, shaping, fulling & blocking a 3d form, with the option of additional feature design elements.

During the workshop you will ...

Be working with Corriedale batts / sliver

Plan & design your own unique slippers

Learn how to measure & create a template for your feet

Have the option to make your own shoe last

Understand how to calculate the shrinkage

Make a resist pattern

Learn how to layout the wool fibres

Create seamless 3d felt

Block the slippers for a professional finish

Have the option to further embellish your slippers

Understand how to add non-slip soles.

You will have access to a selection of fibres & yarns to embellish the slippers with, but please do feel welcome to bring along any inclusions of your own to add too.

Your slippers can be plain, patterned, multi-coloured or include fabric & exotic fibres. More expereinced felters may wish to incorporate other felting technique such as nuno, cracked mud, & resists to add further interesting texture & design features.

(Please Note: Individual participants level of felting knowledge & experience will guide the extent to which you can incorporate further techniques to your design, as this workshop and time allocated is not aimed at teaching these additional processes.)

This workshop is suitable for Advanced Beginners & Intermediate Felters - those with basic felt making experience who wish to develop their skills further. Please be aware that felting is physical and requires some stamina and upper arm strength!

Day 1: 10am - 4:00pm

Day 2: 10am - 1:00pm

Light refreshments of tea, coffee & biscuits are provided. Please bring along a pack lunch, water proof apron and a camera to help you record your work stages. A most enjoyable day! Emma’s studio was warm and welcoming and was a lovely space in which to work. Emma was an excellent tutor, explaining each stage of the feltmaking process clearly and answering any questions that arose along the way. She provided a fantastic array of materials and taught us techniques for using them to best advantage .
