The Icelandic Sheep: The Icelandic sheep is one of the world's oldest and purest breeds of sheep. Its origins are from northern Scandinavia and thought to have been brought by settlers to Iceland from settlers from Norway in the 9th and 10th century. With the isolation that comes with living on the island, the Icelandic sheep is one of the purest breeds of sheep in the world. It is not only the cutest sheep, but its wool is tremendously warm. This is thanks to the fleece being dual coated having a fine, soft undercoat, called thel and a longer, coarser outer coat called tog. The combination of the two fibres gives the sheep a superb protection from cold and wet in the harsh environment of Iceland.

Would you the option to display your fleece on a wall? If you would like to display your Felted fleece we can add a hanging system to your fleece back. These are two leather straps securely screwed into the fleece which you can use to thread a wooden bar through to attach to a wall. Click on 'Add hanging system' in the drop down menu and they will automatically be added at the check out.

Why use leather you might ask? I firmly believe that no part of the animal should be wasted, and sadly as all living creatures must die, it is vital we do not waste these valuable materials. Should you prefer a vegan leather alternative, please contact me and I will happily substitute the fittings for you.
How do I care for my Felted Fleece - Rug, Seat pad or Cushions?

Felted fleeces are easy to maintain & clean as the wool naturally repels dirt. By caring for your hand felted fleece it will last for many years to come, giving you lasting joy and reducing its impact on the environment.

Regularly give the felted fleece a good shake outside and beat the felted back to remove loose dirt and dust. This will also help shake out the locks which may flatten after repeated walking or sitting on. Refrain from using a vacuum cleaner on your felted fleece product, as the locks are likely to become entangled.

When using your felted fleece as a rug or throw we recommend washing it on an annual basis to keep it in good condition. The rugs can be hand washed dried flat or on a washing line as you would your woolly jumpers.

Like any wool product please be aware that it is normal to expect some shedding of fibres initially. Wool and textile products need protecting from moths, we spray the fleece with cruelty free, biodegradable essential oils to protect and repel moths.
